IA has made a name for itself as the ultimate hub for academic innovation, but it is less known for its athletic extracurriculars. However, IA students across all grade levels have been challenging this notion for the past four years by participating in sports at their zoned high schools.
William Ramsey, a Senior in the IT Pathway, is one out of many students who play sports at their zoned high school while being enrolled at Innovation Academy. Will had the opportunity to play on the Defensive End as a football player at Roswell High School for three years, and is currently pursuing his interest as a cross-country runner! When asked about the biggest takeaway he had learned from playing the two sports, Will mentioned that he learned discipline from the early morning and late afternoon practices.
Additionally, he elaborated on the difficulty that some student athletes might experience when balancing sports commitments and schoolwork. Although it comes with its own set of challenges, Will finds the experience rewarding as it has taught him important skills throughout his high school years such as ambition and determination. Will’s story, as well as those of many other IA students, reaffirms the fact that Innovation Academy is committed to supporting students in their athletic and academic pursuits both on and off the field.
