Principal’s Message

Good afternoon everyone,

This year the Fulton County School Board has introduced new policies to help guide the processes and requirements for students to attend Open Enrollment schools. In order to align with these policies, we are updating our magnet requirements. While most requirements have not changed, you will see clearer expectations around attendance, academics, and discipline. There are a few policies for Open Enrollment and for IA I want to bring specific attention to.

Students who are unenrolled for any reason will not be allowed to return IA. We are obligated by Fulton County Board Policy to withdraw students who are absent for more than ten consecutive days. It is important to discuss any long-term absences with your assistant principal to consider all options available for these situations.

10 or more late arrivals or early dismissals will also cause students to return to their zoned school. I know this will cause a lot of concerns for families with medical concerns. You can get pre-approval from administration to exceed these days for valid medical reasons.

The other requirements are fairly consistent with existing expectations, but if you have questions about any of these, please reach out to me directly at kents@fultonschools.org.

Please make sure you review and discuss these requirements with your students to ensure your family and your student specifically are clearly aware of the expectations for attending IA.
