10th Literature Explores Identity Through Projects

While a STEM school, Innovation Academy remains committed to enabling students to explore the humanities through English/Literature, Writing, and Social Studies classes, often with crossovers into psychology and behavioral sciences.

This semester, students in the 10th Literature class (10th Lit) are working on a unique, innovative project: each student chooses an important part of their identity and then interviews people with that same characteristic, discussing the expectations that stem from this aspect of their identity alongside the impact this trait has on their decision-making or self-perception.

The interviews took a variety of different forms: from one-on-one audio interviews to group interviews or reactions to external media, students explored a variety of distinct methods to explore how characteristics of one’s identity impacts conscious behaviors toward people, places, or things and beliefs about physical, mental, or social attributes.

As a project experience rooted in the humanities, the 10th Lit Identity Project has allowed students to reflect on the most meaningful and the most impactful components of their identities as a way to connect with their peers and craft an engaging video to highlight what these traits and characteristics mean to them.

Overall, this 10th Lit project is just one of the unique experiences for students at IA to be able to immerse themselves in the humanities in a creative and inspiring manner.
