To launch “The Phoenix Project on Food Scarcity”—IA’s inaugural Project Week (from November 18th to 22nd) themed around food scarcity in our communities—and to offer students the chance to immerse themselves in real-world scenarios, Flex Fridays now have another session opportunity!
Where and Why?
On their non-pathway (for 9th graders, on non-9th grade) Flex Fridays, students can sign up for field trips and volunteer opportunities at:
- Safe Centers (North Springs, HS Tri Cities HS, Banneker HS)
- Atlanta Community Food Bank
- Community Assistance Center
- North Fulton Community Charities
- Hunger in Action
On these field trips, students can tour the facilities and partake in volunteer-based activities to help make an impact towards resolving or mitigating food scarcity in our local communities. As a lead-in to Project Week, these fields trips also allow students to embrace a broader perspective and dive deep into the heart of food scarcity to gain a unique understanding of how this issue has been affecting not just far-flung communities in distant nations, but our own local communities.
Project Week
During Project Week, students will have the opportunity to:
- Participate in seminars with industry specialists and non-profits
- Engage in dynamic discussions with peers
- Collaborate in groups to design innovative solutions to food scarcity
