We recently had a transition this last week in January from having Block Days to the newly established Club Week. While both are ways students use to explore and enhance their passions, the structure between both varies. Block days used to occur on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the last week of the month, and they would host three clubs on a singular day while having enough room to hold extended classes of three other subjects. The new Club Week has distributed the three club times to one club per day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the fourth and fifth periods of the school day. Instead of hosting three extended classes, the schedule would continue as normal, with the classes being five minutes shorter.
I’ve asked a few students at IA to get their viewpoints on which one they think was better.
According to a 9th grader, the block day system worked better in keeping the flow of clubs moving and being a stress-free day.
“I kinda liked club day better. The clubs feel rushed in club week, and I feel like we had more time and less stress in club day. I’d say that they should do club day twice a month perhaps or make the clubs longer in club week.”
But there are different reasons why the club week is shown to work out: it provides a nice consistency of clubs within the week while feeling more integrated into the school day.
“I like the new club week thing. It’s peaceful to have a break before 5th period, and it doesn’t ruin the rhythm of the day. The schedule was one of the best proposed ones, and I’m glad we have it implemented.”
“I like club week better; I hated the longer classes. On Block B Day, the Wednesday after Tuesday, I actually lost my mind, like banging my head against a table worthy. Even though GT Block was supposedly shorter on those days, it felt longer.”
Ultimately, the decision between which one is better might just boil down to personal preference. Hopefully, this new version of integrating clubs in the school day will continue to be a popular preference.
That’s all for now!
