Happy Friday IA Families,
I wanted to take a moment to touch base about a trend we’re starting to see that could impact both local and standardized testing.
Recently, we’ve noticed some students using smart glasses, such as Meta glasses, which integrate AI technology. While this is undeniably exciting technology, it raises serious concerns about test security and grade integrity. As we move into testing season, please ensure that your student does not wear these glasses during any exams. If your student requires prescription lenses, we strongly encourage them to wear traditional (“dumb”) glasses to avoid any issues—whether intentional or unintentional—during testing.
On a broader note, I want to again encourage conversations with your student about the value of learning for understanding rather than just chasing high grades. In all honesty, we are seeing too many students engaging in academic dishonesty because of an overwhelming focus on their GPA. My strong recommendation is to help your student build a course load that fosters deep learning and engagement, rather than one that stretches them too thin.
When students attempt to take advanced courses in every subject, they often end up “chasing the test”—cramming for one exam after another without truly absorbing the material. This is when even the brightest students can feel pressure to take shortcuts.
I know this can be a challenging time for students who are striving for the “perfect” college and career path. But we need to remind them that immersing themselves in subjects they genuinely enjoy will not only help them in the short term but will also set them up for long-term success.
