Last Saturday, IA Robotics (Team 8866) won a stunning victory at a competition in Statesboro, following two others in Gainesville and Ashevile, NC. These wins ranked IA in 4th within the Peachtree District.
These competitions are weekend long affairs, where alliances of schools and their robots compete against each other to score points in a game each season. This year, the game is called Reefscape, where points are scored by placing PVC pipes or “coral” and playground balls or “algae” onto a central reef structure. As you can see in this video, it’s a complicated process requiring IA Robotics to engineer a sophisticated arm-like contraption (pictured) that could both grab the inner part of a PVC pipe and large playground balls. The creation of this contraption as well as the rest of the robot took a total of, from one estimate, 480 hours of work from the team as a whole, but special shoutouts to students:
● Anay Ram
● Ashrith Vamireddy
● Rashil Narra
● Samaya Reddy
These students had a special role in the creation of the robot or on the team as whole. Thanks to their efforts as well as the rest of the team, IA has won an award at every competition. They won the Excellence in Engineering Award in Gainesville, the Team Sustainability award in Asheville, and the Autonomous award at Statesboro.
While they’re currently ranked 4th in Peachtree, they hope to raise that ranking this weekend at the District Championships. Good luck IA Robotics!
