Innovation Academy is committed to addressing societal issues as part of our school environment, and one of the main ways the school does so is by conducting the Phoenix Project: it’s a semester-long project that informs students about a particular societal issue and helps them innovate creative solutions. Ms. Kathryn Paxton, an administrator at IA, helped plan this event and discussed, “The Phoenix Project is a great opportunity for the students to learn about the challenges of the world around them, and the Moonshot
experience serves to get students acquainted with the purpose of the Project.” To elaborate, the Moonshot experience is a day-long exercise for students to become familiar with the topic of this year’s Phoenix Project: natural disasters.
During Moonshot, students were able to attend seminars and work sessions about how natural disasters impact communities and were able to learn from “expert speakers who are well-versed in the natural disaster field.” Moving forward, students will be able to take what they learned from Moonshot to help innovate ground-breaking solutions for such a pressing issue in our world. Project Week will take place the week before Thanksgiving.
