With most Dual Enrollment classes officially put in motion earlier this week, it’s best to be prepared for new assignments and styles of college learning. As such, whenever you’re coming upon new territory, it’s best to play it safe and familiarize yourself with the new platforms, schedules, and more. IA counselor Lauren Butler suggests keeping yourself informed on your schedules and classes, suggesting to “do your research, be familiar with the processes, and also keep communicating with your counselor when you’re struggling,” emphasizing how important it can be to ask for advice when you’re lost on what to do.
Another thing to note for students new to Dual Enrollment is to remember that they are college-level classes, not just classes offered by IA; the responsibility of keeping assignments to a schedule isn’t always that of the teacher’s. Especially for online classes, you are expected to keep track of your own assignments on your own time, so be very careful not to fall behind. “The ownership is on you; the communication is on the student,” Ms. Butler also stated, “and when you go to college, it’s going to be the same thing.” As long as you keep your mind on task and your work in order, you should have no trouble gaining your credits.
