By now, most students are used to how unpredictable Georgia weather is. One day it’s warm enough for short sleeves, and the next morning you’re freezing on the way to school. Ryan Herrera[9], shared that it’s been “pretty cold, the coldest we’ve had in a while.” A lot of students mentioned that mornings feel especially rough, since you layer up just to end up taking everything off once the sun comes out. It really feels like two different seasons in one day. “Every morning I wear a jacket when it’s cold, then change when it warms up,” said Lena Akbar[10].
IA seems to have pretty conflicting opinions on whether the cold is actually enjoyable or not. Ryan Herrera [9] said he actually prefers colder weather and doesn’t mind the temperature drop. However, others feel the complete opposite and are already wishing it were warmer again. “I don’t like it, I want it to be in the mid-70s, that’s the perfect temperature for me,” said Aniket [9]. So overall, the cold definitely isn’t everyone’s favorite.
One student had especially strong feelings about the cold. Maya Jabri[12] says, “I honestly hate cold temperatures so much. I would rather be smothered in lava than have to go outside when it’s below 40.” She explained that even a slight breeze makes her uncomfortable, and her hands, ears, and nose get cold really fast. Because of that, she always wears big jackets, gloves, and even uses heated seats just to warm her hands before driving. She also talked about how cold weather keeps her inside more often, which affects how she spends her time. When she’s indoors, there isn’t much to do except homework and schoolwork, so she ends up staying focused. “So honestly, yeah, the cold just keeps me locked up and locked in,” Jabri said.
Some students are even adjusting their routines depending on how cold it gets. “I don’t go outside that often when it’s cold or plan things when it’s really cold,” Lena Akbar[10] said. Though not everyone lets the cold stop them. A few said they keep their plans the same no matter what the weather is like. Another student explained that the cold doesn’t change their schedule, and they’ll still hang out or get things done even on the colder days.
Everyone has their own individual approach to getting through winter. Some enjoy the cold, while others are already hoping for warmer days, but ultimately it comes down to how each person adjusts and stays comfortable. Additionally, with the temperatures continuing to drop, many students are also hoping that this winter might finally bring a little snow to look forward to.
