Senioritis, Anyone??

Senioritis is defined as the point in a student’s final year when they experience a negative slope in school. Many have poked around at this joke throughout the year, but have we actually gotten to this point yet? As winter break creeps around the corner, virtual courses are due, projects are due, tests are soon, little practice assignments are eating at your grades, not to mention this minor thing known as college apps. I myself hit the decline way too early, but what about the rest of us?

For most of us, it seems like the disease has already struck. Baasel Quraishy (senior) has stated, “I think it’s starting to kick in, like a couple times I’ll wake up and I’m like I don’t know if I want to do this right now. It’s definitely starting to kick in.” When I asked him what his biggest concern was, he replied with “I’m just worried about college stuff.” The correlation between college prep, in-class assignments, and the lack of doing things shows a pattern. For many, the main source of burnout is college prep because this semester is really just prepping for college and getting your applications in.

On another note, since many seniors have either already completed their core classes or have only a few left, graduating feels fairly easy. One senior, Dex Camp, explained, “Ever since senior year started, I have not cared at all about any of my classes besides the two classes that I actually need to graduate.” Some people plan on going to a big four-year school, while others are leaning more towards the cheaper end of the spectrum. “I’m getting into Gwinnett Tech, which doesn’t require me to have a super high GPA, so it’s like I’ve just been on cruise control the entire time,” Dex explained.

It’s really easy to just do nothing around this time because everyone is so close to the end, and the wall we want is to just wind down and relax. But it ain’t really that time yet, literally. If you still have virtual assignments to catch up on, classes to pass, college apps and projects to finish, it’d be best to just do them and be done. A lot of people are still behind, and for every strong start, there is a fall-off point, and it’s up to you to decide whether the comeback is real.
