2026 is the New 2016 – IA Social on Feb 19th

By Siddarth Suresh

Walk through the halls lately and there’s a different kind of energy in the air. Someone’s playing a throwback playlist from 2016. A group of friends is laughing about bottle flipping like it never went out of style. Bright colors, oversized hoodies, and scrunchies are making subtle appearances again.

Part of 2026 has been shaped by a light wave of 2016 nostalgia. Trends from a decade ago are resurfacing in small but noticeable ways, reminding students of viral challenges, catchy pop anthems, and hands-on creativity that once filled their screens. More than just revisiting old fads, though, it’s about the shared excitement that comes with experiencing something familiar together.

That feeling of connection is exactly what inspired the IA Class Council’s 2016-themed social on February 19th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the Hangar.

The event will transform the nostalgia into an interactive experience for everyone. Students can grab the mic at karaoke and sing along to iconic mid-2010s hits, test their skills at bottle flipping stations, or get creative at slime-making tables (no glue, no activator) inspired by one of 2016’s most unforgettable trends. Free pizza will be available throughout the event, giving everyone a chance to relax and enjoy the night.

While the activities bring the theme to life, the bigger purpose goes beyond throwbacks and trends. 10th Grade Class Council President Shubham Trivedi noted, “The Class Council hopes this event creates an atmosphere where every student feels welcome.” Whether someone comes to perform, compete, craft, or simply spend time with friends, the goal is inclusiveness and togetherness.

Looking ahead, the Class Council is excited to continue hosting events that spark connection and boost school spirit. This social is just the beginning. By planning more inclusive, creative gatherings in the future, they hope to keep bringing students together and making school a place where everyone feels involved.
