The Game Awards 2025!

By: Tommy Steimer

The Game Awards have just happened once again, and with it are many huge game announcements, including game of the year! Geoff Keighley, a Canadian video game journalist, hosted this year’s award show for the 11th year in a row. From extremely complicated orchestra performances to Batman and Mrs. Piggy crashing the show, the Game Awards 2025 really had it all.

Some of the biggest parts of the show were the game announcements. To start, two brand new Tomb Raider games from Crystal Dynamics. The next game announced was Total War: Warhammer 40,000. Senior at Innovation Academy, Brooks Eddy, stated, “I love Warhammer because there is such an expansive game that, regardless of whether you don’t like one part of the franchise, there will always be other parts that you will love. I also really like the overall aesthetic of Warhammer 40k and think that the storytelling is great.” From the studio that made Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023 Game of the Year), Larian Studios announced a new D&D-like game called Divinity, described as “more expansive than Baldur’s Gate 3.”

Many shows and movies were announced at the award ceremony. The best game adaptation for 2025 was awarded to The Last of Us season 2. A new 2026 Streetfighter movie starring Jason Momoa, 50 Cent, and Andrew Koji was announced. Finally, Geoff Keighley revealed a sneak peek for the all-new Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiering in 2026.

After a performance from Lenny Kravitz and the Game Awards Orchestra, the game of the year was announced by game director Niko Doucet. The winner was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG with real-time elements developed by Sandfall Interactive. The game is about a group of survivors from the city of Lumiere who go on an adventure to kill a god-like figure known as the “Paintress”. It’s no surprise that Clair Obscur takes this award home since the game has been in development for the last six years. With the Game Awards 2025 being one of the best video game award shows to date the only thing we can do now is wait for 2026!
