Every year thousands of people tune in to watch their favorite artists at the Grammys. The Grammy Awards are known as one of the biggest nights in music because they honor the best albums, songs, and artists of the year. They are presented by The Recording Academy, and the nominations are peer‑voted. This means the winners are chosen by musicians and producers. After the first round of submissions are screened, members vote in two rounds, called the nominations and the final winners. The winners are called up during the Grammys and awarded the official Grammy trophy which is a 24‑karat gold‑plated gramophone. The Grammy award categories include the Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Ever since the first Grammy awards ceremony on May 4, 1959, the Grammys have continued to highlight the hard work of many artists and their albums.

IA student Lesli Sabino-Granados (11) stated, “The Grammys were a beautiful celebration of artists music, and cultural representation, I was really excited to see bad bunny win for his album DTMF.”

The 68th annual Grammy Award Nominations were held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Its safe to say that this year has been one of the most historic ceremonies ever. Bad Bunny made history when he won Album of the Year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos. This was the first time a Spanish‑language album won the biggest award of the night. That night he won Best Música Urbana Album and used his acceptance speech to comment on ICE, by stating “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out.” (Savage) This statement became one of the most talked‑about moments of the show. Kendrick Lamar also won Record of the Year with SZA for “Luther,” which makes him the most awarded rapper in Grammy history. Billie Eilish and Finneas won Song of the Year for “Wildflower,” becoming the only songwriters ever to win that category three separate times. Olivia Dean was also awarded The Best New Artist. These wins made the 2026 Grammys stand out for all its exciting groundbreaking moments.

IA student Samriddhi Gusain (11) stated, “This year, the Grammys felt much more real. The winners actually spoke their minds about the political situation and showed real self-awareness. It was good to see that kind of transparency.”

What sets the 2026 Grammys apart from other years is the increase in political statements made in acceptance speeches. Artists utilized their moments on the stage to speak openly about the current political situation. Artists who attended the nominations addressed their views silently but boldly with “ICE OUT,” badges.

In conclusion, we had another successful Grammy season. Many people enjoyed watching their favorite artists win. There were many historic moments that made up this years nominations as well. Overall the 68th annual Grammy award nominations were historic and exciting.
