Recently, our Biology and Biology Honors classes engaged in project-based learning where they learned about ecology with a hands-on experience. In Ms. Taha’s Biology class, students are making eco-chic terrariums. Essentially, students are making mini ecosystems in these terrariums with all kinds of organisms. By doing so, students to observe the interactions between different types of organisms and how that influences their living environment. From this experience, Ms. Taha says that she “hopes that students gain critical collaboration skills and are able to have these kind of hands-on experiences as an integrated part of their curriculum.” Ms. Restler and Ms. Smead’s Biology classes are also focused on similar hands-on ecology experiences where students are learning about various parts of an ecosystem and about different species of their choosing. Overall, all the teachers hope to encourage the students to engage with their education, and they are excited to help students grow throughout the school year! See below for some pictures of student-created eco-chic terrariums!
