All STEM Spark Day
September 25, 2024 2024-09-25 14:25All STEM Spark Day
Event: All STEM Spark Day
What: A one-day immersive experience where our IT and Engineering students will explore the future of transportation through a cross-curricular lens. Students will delve into the challenges facing our world in engineering and IT, with hands-on learning and expert guidance in areas like rocketry, autonomous cars, electric vehicles, drones, transformers and more! They’ll tackle the question, “How can we research and re-envision the next generation of transportation?”We’ll celebrate our progress with an expo showcasing all the projects at the end of the day!
When: Friday, November 1, 2024
Where: 125 Milton Ave Alpharetta, GA 30009
Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm (if you cannot commit all day, we can be flexible with your schedule)
Who: Innovation Academy IT students, Engineering students, teachers, business partners, and volunteers.
Examples of Workshops Include But Not Limited To:
- Animation: talk about CGI and animation in the transformer’s movies, how they were accomplished and do some basic animation of pre-rigged giant robot models in blenders. Also look at lighting and other effects,
- Game Design: a discussion of driving simulators/trainers. We could identify the important parts of a driving or flying simulator and try to recreate a version of it in Unity. Would love to create a version of Ambulance simulator that the Healthcare class could use in their classroom.
- EVs: A deep dive into autonomous driving, how do self-driving cards work and trying to create a model or a simulation to simulate how to create a self-driving vehicle (can explore the use of our Pi-Top 4s or sphero to see if they have an AI integration).
- AI/Python: Gather information about Airplane data and try to create a tracker like Taylor Swift is suing over: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/02/06/taylor-swift-jet-tracking-legal-threat/. Then figure out how to best present the data and try to figure out any environmental impacts.
- Embedded Computing: Try to recreate and modify basic traffic signals. Create a stop light using an Arduino and brainstorm different ways we can use lighting to communicate on the road.
- Traffic Patterns: Students will map out a large scale city environment that portrays normal traffic impediments, stoplights, etc. Using Finch robots, students will code robots to make their way through the city, trying to find the most efficient way to progress through normal traffic problems. The group that gets their robot through the city the fastest wins! Students will lose points if they hit pedestrians, buildings, etc)
- Drones: Students can create a drone light show and design the maps and movement for the drones to travel in 3-D space to create multiple images/pictures etc.
- Transport: Students prototype a vehicle that can transport goods across multiple biomes/landscapes. Ex: ice, sand, tundra, etc. How could these vehicles change or TRANSFORM!
Please see the flyer below and scan the QR code (or click THIS LINK) if you can support our students in this hands-on day of learning! Select “Volunteer at All STEM Spark”. We will have a Business Partner volunteer training where you will be paired with a teacher and student leader to help support your workshop.
