Alpharetta Police Department Parent Workshop

The upcoming Parent Workshop will be covering the topic of Booster Seat & Highway Safety. This workshop will be held at Alpharetta Elementary School on Monday, February 23rd from 5:30pm to 7pm. See attached flyer!

Alpharetta Police Department has partnered with Author Jen Harty and her children’s book, “Francie & Fitz Booster Buddies,” to support her mission in raising awareness around the importance of booster seat safety.

A quick synopsis of Jen’s story:

Jen and her children were involved in a terrible car accident 20+ years ago. Thankfully, all survived because everyone was buckled up appropriately! Jen had her children correctly restrained but realized that it was not law (at the time) to put children in proper restraints. This prompted her to write policy and approach the legislature about establishing a law that forces parents to place their children in car seats/booster seats. Jen Harty is responsible for “Madison’s Booster Seat Law” which was signed into effect in 2004 and ensures that children 8 years old and under are properly restrained.

Furthermore, Jen wrote the children’s book, “Francie & Fitz Booster Buddies” as a way to further the initiative – educate parents on the importance of booster seat safety, as well as motivate kids to sit in them without fussing! She wanted to create a platform that would spark conversations about safety during family/reading time.

This Parent Workshop will be showcasing her book, “Francie & Fitz Booster Buddies,” and Jen is our keynote speaker, but in addition, we will also have speakers from Alpharetta PD’s very own traffic unit, along with a CPST Instructor.
