It’s February, so happy Valentine’s Day, and happy Anti-Valentine’s Day! This month, we’ve had a collection of events that each contributed their own to our Student Life. This month, due to the lovey-dovey theme of Valentine’s Day, we’ve had a more romantic theme to our events, specifically, the exchange of gifts. If you’ve walked between the different sides of the Hangar during 4th and 5th periods, you may have seen a booth selling Candy Grams by the Food4Lives club, but what makes it so special? Other clubs also had booths for Valentines Day, what makes Food4Lives different?
That is because the profits collected by Food4Lives don’t directly go to the club but instead go to a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the homeless and those who are less fortunate. Food4Lives member, Claire Rafferty comments that the club “wanted to do something fun for Valentine’s Day that would be good for the students but also help those in need at the same time.” By both supporting the spirit of Valentine’s Day and supporting the community, Food4Lives effectively fits the theme of the month, and also benefits people around them. In addition, they aren’t just hosting this event for public image, they have the motivation to set it up and follow through with their plans. After interviewing a few members of the club, majority of the members agreed that “making the Candy Grams” was their favorite part of the event and that they were “extremely happy to be able to give back to the community.”
