By Siddarth Suresh
Starting high school at IA can feel exciting, stressful, and confusing all at once. Everything seems bigger: the campus, the workload, the Flex Fridays, and even the pressure to figure out who you want to be. You may feel like everyone else already has everything planned out, but the truth is that most people here are still figuring themselves out too. High school is a new experience for everyone in different ways, and it takes time to adjust.

One of the most important things to remember is not to measure your worth by grades, popularity, or extracurricular activities alone. While academics and achievements matter, high school is also about building friendships, discovering your interests, and learning from mistakes. Some of your best memories will come from ordinary moments like talking with friends before class, attending school events, or simply finding people you feel comfortable around. As IA teacher Ms. Taha says, “Being a student at IA is more than being an academic; it’s also about engaging in the community around you.”
You will probably face pressure during high school, especially from social media and comparison. It can seem like everyone around you is more successful, confident, or prepared for the future. Try not to let that mindset control your experience. Everyone moves at their own pace, and no one has everything perfectly together, even if it looks that way online or at school.
Most importantly, do not be afraid to grow and change. High school is about learning more about yourself over time. You will make mistakes, face challenges, and have moments where things feel uncertain, but those experiences are part of growing up. The four years may seem long now, but they move faster than you think, so make the most of them while you can, as I hope I did.
Sincerely,
Siddarth Suresh
