Since 1997, Nvidia has been an absolute cornerstone in Corporate America, and its growth. However, since last year, Nvidia has made a major shift in their priorities. Previously known for their impeccable graphics cards and RAM (Random-access memory) cards, Nvidia wants to be known for other aspects of their company. That main aspect is Artificial Intelligence… Is this a good thing, or is this the doom of reasonable computer prices?
As previously mentioned, Nvidia is a staple company in computer parts and graphics cards. Recently, in the last 2 months, we have seen many RAM cards and graphics cards prices double or even triple in price! Many graphics cards that used to cost $1000 are now around the range of $3000! Why is this? Many people were expecting an announcement at CES 2026 for the brand new RTX 50 Series super refresh (a very powerful new graphics card), but all people got was an announcement that they would not be getting anything new until 2028.
Nvidia has been consistent in releasing new graphics cards every year for the past five years. All they have announced is that the company will be focused on Artificial Intelligence for the next two years. A student at Innovation Academy, Ethan Maciel, says, “We don’t know what the ceiling is for how good this technology can get. I see no present solution to fix any of these rising prices. Soon, only the rich will be able to acquire computers, but I’m hoping this can change soon.”
Will Artificial Intelligence be a net negative with the job market already lacking, or will this truly be a tool to change the future? Will we be able to buy computers at a reasonable price again, or will they be marked up forever? No need to fear! After 2028, Nvidia will focus on graphics cards and RAM production again, which, hopefully fingers crossed, will make it a reasonable market again.
