Georgia Tech Math Trip

By: Tommy Steimer

There’s no doubt that Innovation Academy students are notoriously known for excelling in STEM fields, especially mathematics. On Saturday, March 7, the IA Math Team traveled to Georgia Tech to participate in the annual Georgia Tech Math Day, where students had the opportunity to play Math Jeopardy, Math-Magical card tricks, burrito optimization, and other engaging games. Innovation Academy student Sidhanth Manivannan stated, “Not only did they use multiple concepts for one trick, but they exactly predicted what card would turn up using a special code!” Not only were there many fun games, but there was also a competitive part to the trip. Audrey Sun was recognized by scoring an outstanding 20 out of 22 on the competitive round.

Being around GT math also allowed students to compare IA’s math experience to college math. Student Timothy Ang stated, “You can tell Georgia Tech math classes get exponentially harder by building on the last unit repetitively, while many high schools will just start a new unit or concept at the same level. It’s hard to compare high school and college-level math because of how much they differ. Overall, the Georgia Tech Math Day was an entertaining and educational experience for math-oriented Innovation Academy students. If you have any passion for math or math-related activities, consider joining the Innovation Academy math team!
