The registration period for this year’s Fulton County Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) Competition will open October 1, 2026. The 2027 Fulton County Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl will be held in person on Saturday, January 23, 2027, at Riverwood High School. The competition will be held from 8:30 am until approximately 1:00 pm.  

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) is a state-wide reading initiative that was created by Mrs. Helen Ruffin, a library media specialist in DeKalb County, Georgia, in 1986. The purpose of the HRRB is to encourage students in grades 4-12 to read and study books of literary excellence, and to compete with other schools in a quiz format. The HRRB aims to increase student achievement and reading comprehension, help students develop a deeper appreciation for literature, enhance verbal communication skills, promote cooperation, build self-esteem, and develop team spirit.
