There have been many remarkable shows that began and progressed into everyone’s top ten picks of all time. Yet with that status comes the unbearable and immense weight of producing that final season, that final episode. Over last several years, many shows have completely collapsed under that pressure or just simply gave up. Game of Thrones, Squid Game, Stranger Things, The Flash, Arcane and many more from many years ago, are exquisite examples of what not do to do when your show is about to end.

Every show has to start somewhere, setting up the world, the characters, and the details that are planted throughout that first season and even the rest of the show. The Pilot is the first episode of a show and is essentially proof of concept, setting the tone, character dynamics, the settings, etc. The importance of the pilot is to hook your audience into sticking with the show and give the network a reason to continue airing the series.

Beyond that first episode comes the set up and payout that the audience really cares about. The character relations, the world expansion, the intricate plot, they become some of the best part of the show. But since they are so beloved, it can be very easy to ruin it without a plan. “Not all shows are ordered to subsequent seasons.” Mr. Custar explained, “Rarely, a showrunner who is devoted and passionate and singular in their pursuit of their show may script a number of seasons to conclude in an epic, narratively satisfying way.”

If the show runner is that passionate to craft a long running series, then it is up to a few other details that have to stick for the show to really keep its full potential. The cast, the crew, the writers, all heavily matter to a passionate vision because they are the chess pieces on the complicated set of the beloved tv show. Baasel Quraishy stated “First of all, have a younger cast, especially if you want to grow with your characters and have your audience grow with them. Second, have writers that are really good, that understand the characters and want to passionately work on this, that have good vision and good direction.” The showrunner who came up with the idea isn’t the only one bringing the world to life, and its important for consistent passion and commitment across everyone involved in the project.

“I think the best thing to do is consistency and have a set vision, younger cast, passionate writers, passionate directors.” – Baasel Quraishy

Writing an epic five season long blockbuster tv show of epic scale and story. Crafting a series long series requires time, patience, commitment, and, above all, passion. Everyone has their part to play in the crucial role of crafting such art, from the executives, to the crew, to the cast. Although every show probably won’t may not stick the landing in its ending, there is a reason why people fell in love with the series initially. It becomes a pattern to live with and learn from.
