IA Envirothon team advances to Nationals

Envirothon is a nationwide environmental science competition where students work in teams to solve real‑world challenges in ecology, natural resources, and sustainability. It blends hands‑on fieldwork with problem‑solving, and students are tested in areas such as Forestry, Aquatic Ecology, Wildlife, Soil & Land Use, and a rotating Current Issue. Teams spend months preparing, learning to analyze ecosystems, interpret data, and propose solutions—skills that mirror what real environmental scientists do.

Innovation Academy proudly fielded two Envirothon teams this year, joining one of the nation’s premier environmental science competitions.

Team #1 — Arpan Saha, Srishti Agrawal, Charlotte Chon, Sage McGill, and Emily Sloboda — earned first place in Forestry, first in the Current Topic, and first place overall. Their outstanding performance has qualified them for the National Envirothon in Mississippi this summer, where they will compete against top teams from across the country.

Team #2 — Anoushka Shinde, Aparna Kapri, Samantha Walsh, Brody Chilton‑Hogston, and Samuel Valladares — gained valuable experience and had a great time competing. Their hard work and growth this season set a strong foundation as they look ahead to next year’s competition.

Innovation Academy is incredibly proud of both teams for their commitment to environmental science, collaboration, and the kind of authentic learning that makes Envirothon so special.
