March Club Spotlight: Student Prep and Help

Happy Eid, St. Patrick’s Day, and any other holiday that occurs in March! Once again, it is time for the monthly club spotlight. As most students know, scheduling for next year’s courses is currently underway, and many underclassmen are flooding the counselor’s offices with questions of “should I take this course next year?” and “how hard is this course?” Luckily, to address this issue, one of IA’s clubs, Student Prep and Help, hosted an event to offer some council. Student Night, according to club leader Ruhi Khanna, was “intended to aid underclassmen by explaining course rigor, study skills, organizational habits, and methods of learning to underclassmen interested in taking a class.” The way the event worked was that there were several upperclassmen volunteers who the underclassmen could ask questions to. The upperclassmen would answer in an unbiased tone, providing advice on academics. This helped clear up much confusion over the scheduling process, allowing underclassmen to make better choices on their course selections.
In order to plan this event, the Student Prep and Help members reached out to peers, teachers, and clubs such as BETA, NHS, Science National Honors Society, and Mu Alpha Theta to obtain volunteers for every subject. In addition, several posts were made to promote the event, both on social media and IA Beacon. All these combined efforts allowed for a successful, fun, and informative session. After interviewing several Student Prep and Help attendees, the overall favorite part of the event “was seeing how many people we helped and the liveliness behind it.” The mood of the event was rather “chill” and the “volunteers there were so friendly and ready to help.” If you’re interested in events like these, please visit Student Prep and Help in Club C!
