Our Student Ambassadors: The Faces of IA

By Anaiya Patel

A student ambassador is a current student who acts as an official representative and liaison for their educational institution to prospective students, their families, and the broader community. They provide an authentic, peer-to-peer perspective on student life, academics, and the overall experience, helping to build trust and foster connections.

Charvik Morampudi (11) states, “I decided to join because I wanted to play a meaningful role in IA’s outreach efforts. Through tours, school events, and community interactions, I wanted to help ensure everything ran smoothly and represented IA at its best, giving back to my school.” During these tours students will walk throughout the school in groups of three. Students will be assigned a designated role as they give the tour. They will be in charge of either the front, middle, or back of the crowd answering questions about their life at IA.

Charvik states, “Student Ambassadors play an active role in nearly all major school events, including Cultivate, the College Fair, Showcase, and various community programs. We also lead tours for prospective students and families, helping them understand what IA offers. Beyond that, we assist with event setup and support staff during activities to ensure everything runs smoothly. Overall, we help create positive, organized, and welcoming experiences for everyone who comes through IA.”

Student Ambassadors is a community that works together to uplift spirit, support peers, and offer insight of the school and everything associated with it. Student ambassadors participate and lead tours. These tours facilitate a positive environment for students to learn and grow lifelong skills that are advantageous not just in a professional setting but everyday life.

Charvik states, “We act as a bridge between the school and the community. Ambassadors help relieve staff during big events, assist students who may feel lost or overwhelmed, and create a welcoming environment for incoming families. We help represent IA’s culture of professionalism, kindness, and service.”

Becoming a student ambassador is beneficial because it cultivates leadership, communication, and networking skills, boosts employability, nurtures a sense of belonging and pride, curates real-world marketing and public speaking experience, and creates valuable connections with faculty, staff, and future peers, all while granting flexible opportunities, potentially earning money, and developing personal confidence and independence. Charvik states, “At the beginning, I was nervous due to my limited public-speaking experience and tendency to be shy around new people. Over time, as I participated in more events, I grew comfortable walking up to guests, parents, or business partners and starting conversations naturally. Now, I actually enjoy connecting with new people and making sure they have a great experience at IA.”

Gaining teamwork skills and improving confidence are skills necessary for a strong and dependable leader. Charvik states, “A typical Ambassador event usually starts with arriving early for setup, arranging tables, greeting stations, or materials. As guests arrive, we welcome them, answer questions, guide them around the building, and offer support wherever needed. Throughout the event, we make sure everything runs on schedule, and afterward, we help break things down and ensure the space is cleaned up. The whole time, the goal is to make guests feel comfortable and informed.”

Student ambassadors are essentially the schools helping hand. Charvik states, “Ambassadors help maintain IA’s strong image by ensuring visitors, partners, and prospective families have a positive experience. We embody the school’s values and help show what makes IA special through our actions and interactions.”

Charvick states, “When I first joined, the process felt a little daunting because there were so many different events and tours to prepare for. The two leaders from last year were extremely supportive; they made sure we received proper training and felt confident before participating in events. Their guidance helped the whole experience feel exciting rather than overwhelming.”

Students ambassadors are the face of the school acting as it’s authentic voice. Charvik states, “after two friends encouraged me to join them for weekly tours, I started looking forward to every opportunity. It eventually got to the point where I would actively check for new events to sign up for because I genuinely enjoyed the work and the atmosphere.”

Student ambassador teaches you to adapt and think quick on your feet. It teaches you important skills such as learning how to communicate not just with peers of all ages. Charvik states, “Another challenge was overcoming my initial shyness when speaking to new people. By consistently pushing myself to step into more interactions, I gradually became more confident and comfortable. Now, I feel far more able to approach guests, lead conversations, and take initiative during events without hesitation. These challenges ultimately helped shape me into a more capable and confident leader.”

Becoming a student ambassador teaches you time management skills as it’s not something where you can just come and go it’s a commitment. Balancing responsibilities is the first step towards refining skills down the road. Being a Student Ambassador means being someone that others can depend on, someone who represents the school with pride, professionalism, and genuine care. Charvik says, “It’s an opportunity to serve, grow, and contribute to something bigger than myself.”

Charvik states, “One memorable moment was when I led a tour for a family who was unsure whether IA was the right fit. By the end of the tour, they told me that the way I explained everything and the atmosphere of the school helped them make their decision. Seeing that my involvement made a real impact was incredibly rewarding.”

Charvik states, “It pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me how rewarding it is to connect with others and contribute to the community. My advice to future Ambassadors is to say yes to opportunities, even when they feel intimidating. The more you participate, the more you grow. Be approachable, stay professional, and remember that your enthusiasm makes a difference in how others experience IA.” Student ambassadors set the tone for hospitality and professionalism at IA. Whether during tours or major events, their friendliness and leadership help reinforce IA as a welcoming, well-organized, and student-driven community.
