September Club Spotlight – Wellness Collective Club

By: Claire Wang

Happy start of fall to all the students, teachers, and parents at Innovation Academy! Fall has started, and proportionally, student-led clubs have become more active as well. Now, during lunches, students are more likely to see a club hosting an event such as karaoke, a performance, or a fun informational activity. However, as the nights are progressively getting longer, seasonal depression is becoming more common. This then begins to pose a danger to the students, especially with the onload of coursework and exams recently. Fortunately, the Wellness Collective Club decided to combat that by promoting mental health awareness to the student population.

During both 4th and 5th period lunches, the club hosted two events dedicated to providing resources to students who may be feeling a bit down. Unlike other programs where they only provide phone numbers, emails, or helplines to students, they interacted with each other, creating a genuine human bond between people. One of their notable events, was the poster of “Notes of Hope,” where you could write a concern you have on a sticky note and post it on the wall as a way to get a weight off your shoulders. Then, you were rewarded with a prize, which promotes sharing your troubles with others. If you are interested in Wellness Collective Club, please visit them in Club A!
