It’s the start of a new school year at Innovation Academy, and as always, student life is thriving! As majority of students have already experienced this year, IA has numerous diverse clubs that cater to different interests ranging from neuroscience, crochet, to even bird watching. In addition, if students feel as if there isn’t a club that fits their interests, they have the opportunity to submit an application for their own club in the spring. This year, both new and old clubs had the chance to market their activities to interested students during the Club Fair on the fourteenth. As expected, many of the popular preexisting clubs attracted attention, but there was one particular club that rapidly gained traction.

            During Club Fair, there were several eyewitness testimonies describing a giant inflatable heart prowling the halls. That mascot belongs to the IA Heart Club, a chapter of the American Heart Association starting this year that is dedicated to spreading awareness about heart issues and prevention. In addition, according to the club’s Instagram page, they are planning outreach to elementary schools in order to inform younger children of the dangers of heart disease. The IA Heart Club provides an authentic introduction to cardiology as they bring in licensed cardiologists for aspiring healthcare students and also provides a fun environment for those who simply want to support the cause. Becoming an active member of this club is a fun way to combine healthcare with something actionable. If you’re interested in the IA Heart Club, visit them in room 224 in Club A!
